See the Music, Hear the Dance
My name is Lesley and I started See the Music, Hear the Dance in August 2022 as a creative outlet for styling activewear, with occasional forays into suited-and-booted fashion. My approach is to give activewear the editorial treatment: take activewear out of the gym and onto the street, and photograph it the way a magazine would with “proper” clothes. Activewear is often worn out of the gym, and creatively it is time for activewear to be reimagined outside, too.

The pieces on See the Music, Hear the Dance are often re-styled across different editorials, because I can’t say something is a classic or worth the money only to wear it once. And also because sometimes buying again is the last thing I need.

See the Music, Hear the Dance is where the back and inside of sports bras are put front and center. All activewear content comes with a checklist of functional details: padding (sewn in, removable, or not padded), straps (adjustable, halter, or racerback), and fit. This information hopefully makes your online shopping experience easier, should we happen to like the same things.
What's in a Name
"See the Music, Hear the Dance" is a quote from the legendary ballet dancer and choreographer George Balanchine. He meant a dancer or choreographer should be able to not just hear the music but also envision how it would be danced to on stage, and to not just see the dance but also feel the movements whenever the music plays. Ballet is my lifelong passion and this quote guides my creative pursuits.
